Red Begins to Flow Over Park and Golf Course

Fort Garry is located in the southern portion of Winnipeg, bordered by Jubilee to the north and the vicinity of the University of Manitoba to the south. In the southern part of Fort Garry, Crescent Drive Park and the Crescent Drive Golf Course begin to experience the surging Red River.

A youngster considers zipping around in puddles as a vehicle tentatively proceeds down roads taking on water in Crescent Drive Park. The Red River encroaches from the left of the photo.
Downstream of the Red in this area, City of Winnipeg crews are engaged in dike construction at the site of a private school located on the banks of the Red in the Wildwood area. While the Red has just begun to rise, the schools soccer fields are the first to be under water.

Across the Red River from this area, the Winnipeg Canoe Club sits poised against the banks of the Red with its sandbag dikes in place.

To see which areas along the southern portion of the Red River in Winnipeg are at flood risk, see this map.
