The Forks Runneth Over While the portion
of the Forks most accessible by the public is positioned along the
banks of the Assiniboine River, the elevated levels of the Red are
causing levels in the Assiniboine to rise far higher than normal in
the spring due to a backwater effect. The Assiniboine normally
drains into the Red at the Forks. With Red River levels so high, the
Assiniboine river "backs up" upstream of the Forks confluence.
The Forks is now inhabited by a mix of satellite dishes to
service media crews and the army who are stationed here to prevent
visitors from getting too close to the waters.

These steps usually take visitors down several
levels to the edge
of the Assiniboine River. Now, the journey to the riverside is very
much shorter.

Looking down on the main decks of the Forks. These steps normally
descend several levels to the Assiniboine River.

As a public service to their customers, one restaurant informs Forks
visitors that the deck that currently sits underwater will not be
serving lunch today.
