Assiniboine River Begins to Rise
Winnipeggers are accustomed to seeing the Assinoboine River rise
over its banks to engulf the riverside paths of the city's
riverwalks. This year however, additional measures are planned in
some portions along the Assiniboine in order to reduce the risk to
property located at close proximity to the Assiniboine's banks.
Dike are currently under construction to protect parking lots and
ground floor tenants of the apartment towers adjacent to the Osborne
Bridge which spans the Assiniboine River just upstream of Manitoba's
Legislative Buildings.
Some apartment towers in the Osborne Village area undergo
problems with Assiniboine River levels interfering with their
underground and low level parking. The photo below depicts a couple
of people having a look at the water levels of the Assiniboine as
they nudge up against the base of structures situated low on the
banks of the Assiniboine. The Manitoba Legislature is located
directly across the Assiniboine from this apartment building. The
Legislative Buildings enjoy a far larger frontage on the Assiniboine
than these apartment buildings do.
